Energy engineering and technology company, TechnipFMC, has announced that is has secured a $250 million contract with oil and gas supermajor, TotalEnergies, for the engineering, procurement and supply of flowlines and connecters for the Girassol Life Extension (GIRLIFEX) project, situated in Angola’s offshore Block 17.
Installation of the flexible pipes are expected to extend the life of the Girassol field by bypassing the outdated and rigid pipe bundles that have been in use since before production at the field began in 2001.
“Awards like GIRLIFEX are a result of the trust we have built with our long-term clients and partners by continually delivering for them,” stated Jonathan Landes, President of the Subsea at TechnipFMC, adding, “We are delighted that TotalEnergies EP Angola is showing continued confidence in our technologies and integration capabilities.”
Situated in Block 17, approximately 210km off the coast of Angola’s capital city of Luanda, the Girassol covers an area of roughly 10km2, and serves as the first deepwater project conducted in Angola’s offshore basins.
Meanwhile, maintenance work will be carried out at the concession’s Dalia field, which produces approximately 120,000 barrels of oil per day. Production has been halted for roughly one month as a result of the scheduled maintenance activities, with production due to come back online on 26 March.
